Chasing is an ancient decorative technique that takes its name from the tool used: the chisel. With the aid of a hammer, the artisan sculpts a metal sheet on which a design has been previously outlined. To support the process and prevent the metal from giving way under the strikes, the piece is filled with pitch, a substance that provides stability. Chasing is often used as the final stage of the repoussé technique, enriching the surface with refined details and artistic depth
